After breakfast I did some writing in the garden behind the hotel which has a lovely gazebo and Melody took a walk around the neighborhood before we took the train to Padua.
When we arrived we took a public bus which two adorable Carabinieri told us would take us directly to our hotel. They were mistaken but it did afford us an opportunity
to see the more residential part of the city. The bus driver was so kind and so apologetic for us having been delayed by the twenty or so minutes on this wrong bus route. He was so gracious and advised us the best way to go was a taxi and we completely agreed.
Once we finally made it to our ultra modern, yet perfect hotel the Methis Hotel on the banks of a small river we were so excited about the visit. Ther
e is a remarkable old town s
ection that is fairly large and comprehensive. We to
ok just a few minutes to put our stuff down and we headed out to see the sights.
We first came to the Astronomy Obsorbatorium which is where Galileo worked. You can only visit the school which is still in operation on Saturdays. We then proceeded to walk through the adorable streets with its medieval architecture and cam
e out to the Piazza Zacco which
is apparently one of the largest, if not he largest in the world. It’s a spectacular sight and two of my favorite build
ings of the day are located there.
We went across the park area to see the Saint Guistina Basiclica which is enormous and breathtaking with its many little chapels. Saint Guistina is the patron saint of Padua.
We then made our way to Saint Anthony of Padua’s Cathedral where when we walked in there was an ordination ceremony going on and we arrived just in time for the new priest to be official ordained. There was a coral gr
oup and the music filled the ex
quisitely adorned space and the lights and the general energy from the congregation made it all so festive. We stayed for mass and then walked around the labyrinth of courtyards that
make up the rest of the compl
ex of buildings associated with Saint Anthony’s Cathedral. In several of the courtyards there are amazing Magnolia Grandflora trees and one in particular that is so stunning has been there since 1810 and stands several stories high.

Melody and I both took a picture hand in hand with the bronze sculpture of Saint Anthony.

We were getti
ng a little tired so we simply walked through town and went past the Palazzo Antico Ghetto which was so lovely at night with
the many columns and beautiful frescos all lit up.
We got a recommendation from the hotel manager to eat at the Enoteca Angelo Rasi just a few blocks from our hote
l and it was a great suggestion as we had the most delectable meal and Melody had wine which she says was one of the best she’s had in a very long time and she was so shocked when it was only 3.00 dollars for the glass. We have found so many amazing places to eat that have been beyond reasonable even with the awful exchange rate.
Well I must say that Padua is an absolute must visit for anyone staying in this part of the country. I really am falling in love with the general beauty in this city but also with the incredible hospitality that we have received from everyone we have met.
